It's clear that the trading town of Elden Hill is in uproar. While they have more than adequate defenses to hold off common bandits, facing the might of the Dark Huffoor's forces will be another matter entirely. No one can be sure when they will arrive, so there isn't a moment to lose.

Many of the Riders are arguing to ride out and meet the Dark Huffoor's army on the plain. But you see this is what he will be expecting. Better to hold up within the walls, let the Dark Huffoor blunt his attack, and then ride out once the power of his initial thrust is spent.
